What is the BIG Referral Group?
The Business in Goochland Referral Group is a Goochland Chamber of Commerce supported structured meeting program for providing and receiving business referrals. Members of the group understand the importance of their consistent attendance to the group as well as interaction with group members and support of group outside of the scheduled meetings.  Inconsistent attendance, frequent tardiness, lack of engagement in referral process and follow up with referrals given to a member of the group can all negatively affect results from the BIG Referral Group.  Leadership may contact group members regarding these or any other concerns.  This is being done to support each member and their business to generate the most successful outcomes from their membership and investment in the BIG Referral Group.
The Goochland Chamber of Commerce created this program to support members with a place to grow their businesses, highlight what makes them incredible, receive support and feedback from other business owners, create a synergy between fellow chamber member businesses, offer another opportunity for interaction with chamber staff, and to grow your success in our community and beyond.  By being a part of the group, each member will obtain and or enhance networking skills to generate profitable referrals. This is not just another networking group; this is an intentional group for growth, success, and referrals.
There can be only one representative from each business industry as a member of each group.

Member requirements
The BIG Referral Group is affiliated with the Goochland Chamber of Commerce and your business must be a member of the Goochland Chamber of Commerce in order to apply for membership to the BIG Referral Group. We believe strongly that a membership to this group will pay great dividends to both your business and personal life. A prospective member must attend two (2) meetings personally (a substitute representative will not be counted as one of the two meetings prior to acceptance) within a 6 month period prior to requesting membership application or before a membership application will be considered.   Guests are welcome to attend two (2) meetings at no cost or obligation. A third meeting must be preceded by current Goochland Chamber of Commerce Membership and accepted application to the BIG Referral Group. All members of the BIG Referral Group must maintain a current Goochland Chamber of Commerce Membership. Failure to keep dues current with both organizations will be considered as a voluntary resignation from BIG Referral Group.
You will be contacted by a member of the leadership team within 7-10 days after the last meeting of the month to allow for proper consideration of each application. If the leadership team feels that your industry is already represented you will have an opportunity to review your application to consider representing an area of industry that is not already represented (example: if life insurance is already represented and you do life/home/auto, you may elect to represent home and auto insurance). You may also be placed on a waiting list for this group or new groups that form in case that industry representation opens up. Final acceptance for the group is up to the discretion of the leadership team.
Once you have been accepted, you will be sent an invoice for the membership.  You have 30 days to pay said invoice.  If no payment has been received within the 30 days, your membership will be revoked.  There is a 6 month waiting period before you are able to attend and/or reapply for BIG Referral Group.
If a member changes industry, they will have to reapply for acceptance in the group.  If the business paid for the member’s dues, then the member must submit new payment with the new application.  The business that paid for the original seat has the right to fill that seat with another representative.
If a business chooses to have multiple industries represented, the business must pay for each seat to be held and each seat is to represent a separate industry from within the business.

Inclement Weather Policy
Should there be inclement weather; the policy will follow the Goochland County Government standards and they are as follows:
  1. If the Goochland County Government (Not the Public Schools) closes for the day or issues an early closing due to weather, then all programs will be canceled.
  2. A posting will be made via the Goochland County Chamber of Commerce social media feeds.
  3. An email will be sent from the Goochland County Chamber of Commerce.

Guidelines, Dues and Application Information
  1. Applicant must be a member in good standing of the Goochland Chamber of Commerce.
  2. BIG Referral Group members may represent only one business or industry in one group.
  3. BIG Referral Group members are limited to one meeting group for each business or industry they represent.
  4. One representative per professional specialty will be accepted per BIG Referral Group.
  5. Members must attend regularly scheduled meetings or send a designated substitute. A member is allowed a maximum of 6 excused absences during a calendar year. An excused absence is designated by absentee member notifying BIG Referral Group Chair of absence prior to the scheduled meeting.
  6. Two unexcused absences in a calendar year will be considered as a voluntary resignation from the member and their industry seat may be vacated. The BIG Referral Group officers may contact the member after two unexcused absences to review his/her status.
7.   Prospective members must attend two referral meetings at the same meeting location as a guest prior to applying for membership. (Chamber membership is not required for guests to visit the group but is necessary prior to acceptance of application.)
8.   Annual membership dues are $99, payable upon acceptance as a member.  A one-time application processing fee of $50 will be charged in addition to the dues if the applicant is accepted into a group.
9.   Membership in a BIG Referral Group is a privilege. Conflicts arising out of business overlap, infringements, or non-compliance with the guideline’s; will be arbitrated by the officers of the group and may result in dismissal from the group without refund.
10. While the Goochland Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors supports the BIG Referral Group, the referral groups are governed by their own leadership and officers with support by the Goochland Chamber of Commerce. Any decision made by the Leadership of the groups and its officers does not affect a business’ membership within the Goochland Chamber of Commerce.
11. By submitting your electronic application for the BIG Referral Group you are indicating that you have read and agree to abide by the standards and policies outlined in these by laws.

Does the group have leadership?
Each group must have a Chair, Vice Chair (2 year commitment), Chamber Representative or Appointed Liaison, and Membership Coordinator. Groups may also choose to have a Social Media Chair, Assistant Membership Chair, Website Coordinator and Assistant Social Media Chair. The Chair of the group is to serve a one-year term. At the end of that term, the Vice Chair will move up and become acting Chair for the next year.  The BIG Referral Group votes every year on Vice Chair, and membership coordinator.  The serving Chair has final decision making authority over all issues affecting the group and can only be removed by a unanimous vote of all members while present by a showing of hands.
A Facebook page will be created for each group and be maintained by the Leadership Team.  The Goochland County Chamber of Commerce will oversee the page and assist as necessary.
The Leadership team will hold a monthly meeting that consists of the Leadership Team and if necessary, a member of the Goochland County Chamber of Commerce Staff.  The meeting date, time, and location will be agreed upon by the Leadership Team.  These meetings are done to determine the topics for the Business Building Moment, ideas for the Opportunity for Growth, discuss any issues that have arisen, and review applications.
