Field Day of the Past “Read & Win”

Field Day of the Past will participate again this year in the International Association of Fairs and Exposition’s Read and Win Program. This program benefits local elementary school children by encouraging them to read library books. For  reading the books, the students are awarded a bookmark ribbon, provided by IAFE and NICA.

Last year, Field Day of the Past also gave one complimentary admission ticket to each student who participated.
Several of Field  Day of the Past vendors also gave vouchers for the students to use. The program was a HUGE success. More than 300 students took part in the Read and Win Program.

Glenda Hawk, Young Explorers/Enrichment Teacher at Bryd and Goochland Elementary Schools in Goochland, has agreed to coordinate the program again this year and, before summer break, the students were given a list of books to read through the summer. We expect more students will participate in 2010.

The education of our children is a community effort and Field Day of the Past would like to extend an invitation to the community to become involved in the Read and Win program. We would greatly appreciate any donations to this effort. Those who wish to participate can make contributions in the form of monetary donations or vouchers to be used in your business location. (Please gear these towards elementary school aged children.) Monetary donations can be made to Field Day of the Past and designated as “Read and Win” contributions. Vouchers can be mailed to the Field Day office for distribution to the students.

The 19th annual Field Day of the Past is scheduled for Sept. 17, 18, & 19. For information on “Read and Win” or Field Day events, please contact Melinda at the Field Day office or visit our website at  www.fielddayofthepast.net .
