Courthouse Village Fair
October 3oth 2010
On a cold and crisp October morning, our local “35 Mile Drive” association held an event on October 30th on the Courthouse lawn. The Goochland Chamber participated by sharing information on our local businesses; as well as membership opportunities and distributing our telephone directory.

How to Take the WORK out of Networking

Jim Roman of Business Owners Institute conducted a seminar for our membership. This is an area that our members are confronted with often and guidance is always appreciated.
One of the highlights was directed to the need to approach these potential business opportunities as anything but an opportunity to sell something. The key word would be “relationships”.
It is important to focus on what you can do for others and it will return to you. He also led the group in an interactive exercise which gave them an opportunity to put these techniques to work.
This information was invaluable to those in attendance and we appreciate Jim bringing this important message to our Chamber.

Chamber Members Learn Trade Show Smarts
The Chamber presented a seminar for the “Taste of Goochland & Business Expo” Exhibitors. Participants were provided with resources to help them improve their image and make the show a positive experience. Points of interest included, what to do: “Before the Show” “During the Show” “After the Show” The presenters have many years of experience working with Trade Shows and understand what it takes to make the show successful for the exhibitors. The most important point emphasized was Post Show Promotion (Follow UP). We consider ourselves very fortunate to have these professionals share their knowledge with our Chamber members.
We extend a big thank you to our presenters, Jan Leaton with Trade Show Smarts, Julia O’Connor, author of The Trade Show Reader, Michael Boykin with Displays, Designs and Signs.

Byrd Cellars BAH
September 1st.
The Goochland Chamber held a Business After Hours event in Western Goochland County at “Rassawek”. The event was hosted by Byrd Cellars Winery at a beautiful setting, under the gazebo transplanted from Richmond’s Sixth Street Marketplace and overlooking the vineyards.
The event was well attended as we were introduced to the owners of Byrd Cellars, enjoyed wine tasting and networked among other people in business.
